About

WORKSHOP PROGRAM: The workshop program began on Saturday, November 7th 2009. Workshops will be held every Saturday through the end of April 2010. Many workshops combine film screenings and technical training. Each class features a guest instructor specializing in the workshop theme, providing youth with a wide range of perspectives in mentorship and a broad network to draw from when pursuing careers in their future. In order to graduate each student must complete a short video and a resume, apply for at least 5 jobs or internships and participate in a portfolio roundtable. Students will also be guided in submitting their work to film festivals. A public screening of the work will be held at the commencement of the program.

FILM SCREENING LIST:

"Now" (1965) directed by Santiago Alvarez
"Quinceanera" (2006) edited by instructor Clay Zimmerman, directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland.

PROJECT DIRECTOR Kelly Parker was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She received an MFA from California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles in 2008. Kelly completed her first feature film South Main, during her studies at CalArts. South Main premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and is distributed by Rainbow Media for the Sundance International Channel. From 2007-2009 Parker developed media for non-profit organizations such as the Veterans Employment Transition Foundation and the Academy of Business Leadership. In 2009 she created the Good Exposure project as a way to make her next feature film endeavor an inclusive experience for inner city youth residing in her community. Through her partnership with W.O.R.K.S. the Good Exposure project was awarded a grant from the California Consumer Protection Foundation, to create media labs, access to camera rentals, filmmaking workshops and resources for youth in Los Angeles. Parker is currently writing a screenplay to produce as part of the Good Exposure Project in 2010.
